When it comes to irritating ants and pests, ants rank near the top of the list. Most homes and offices will have to deal with ants in their property inside and out at some point. The first step is to identify what type of ants you have. Then, of course, you need to fight back properly according to what pest you’re currently dealing with. Let this ant control guide help you.
These carpenter ants are one of the more giant ants in homes and are usually 10 mm long. Despite what their name suggests, they don’t eat wood. These ants tunnel their way through the wood to create their homes, doing considerable damage. Also, they will invade dead trees, telephone poles, and houses found in lawns. Generally, feed on other pests, insects and juices – anything sweet. These liquid feeders are unable to eat solid foods.
They are small, about 5 mm long and have a brownish colour. Thus, they are the most troublesome ant that infects offices and houses because they are small and can get through very tiny cracks. Also, Argentine ants live in the ground, often only 75 mm deep. An ant colony has multiple queens and can grow quite rapidly, displacing other native types of ants. They also quickly establish other colonies when a queen leaves and takes some of the workers with her.
They are 5 mm long and red-coloured. Ant nests are found under dirt or soil ground with a small mound at the opening, leftover food debris. They generally seek seeds as a primary source of food. During the winter months, the ant nests are sealed off, and no activity seen. The harvester ant is indeed known for stinging humans.
These tiny ants are about 3 mm and coloured dark brown. They get their name from the rotten odour that they make. They invade houses searching for food during the winter months when their usual food outside is gone.
Thief ants are very tiny, only about 1.7 mm long, and are a pale brownish colour. Their small size makes it very easy for them to get into offices or houses searching for food and water. Additionally, they love meat, cheese, and greasy foods. They will also eat dead insects. The ant nests are in galleries in the dirt, and they build near other ant colonies.
Ants can be a problem at any time of year, but they are more active in the spring months when they come out from their winter hibernation in looking for food and in the fall when they’re in search of shelter. While ants can be a significant problem, you can fight back—and win. The key is not to wait too long before controlling them both inside and outside of your home.
